If this fellow gets to keep his amputated leg, then why couldn't I have kept my thyroid?
According to NBC News, John Wood kept his leg in a smoker that he kept in a storage facility. The limb had been amputated after a plane crash.
The article notes that he kept the leg for religious reasons his family didn't understand.
This is the argument I had made, with the addition that I didn't understand them either. And I wouldn't have left it in a barbecue smoker in a storage facility.

This is your own fault. If you had promised to keep your thyroid in a smoker grill, the hospital would have let you keep it.
